I painted this walleye-inspired mermaid for the 2019 Mermay challenge. We often imagine fantasy creatures as existing in some remote, exotic locale—but there’s something wonderful about picturing them locally, maybe even locking eyes as you kayak through the lilies on some Minnesotan lake.
A special edition print with gold inked accents was displayed at MSUM’s first annual Homecoming Alumni Exhibition. It now resides in my mermaid-themed bathroom. And yes, I’m a Pisces…how did you know?
