A Little Book About North Dakota Series

This forthcoming series will feature a variety of nonfiction, fiction, and poetry about North Dakota. The biggest challenge of this project was finding an aesthetic that was timeless to last the lifespan of the series, and yet trendy enough to command attention at local bookstores.

I started with a badge design to represent the series, which features a silhouette of the state—folded in half to create a book—as well as a wild rose to incorporate the NDSU Press logo. For the cover design, a simple illustration style was selected to keep the books consistent regardless of topic. The title uses a vintage-inspired font, paired with a modern sans-serif to balance old with new. To add a pop of color and more local flavor, I wrapped a county map of the state around the spine, back cover and flap. This project is still a work-in-progress, so check back for updates soon!
